It is a small village in northern Holland on the banks of
the Zaan River where you can see windmills making it one of the most popular
tourist attractions. The Windmill is the icon of Holland, one century ago there
was about 10 thousand windmill in Holland of which only less than 1000 still
existing today. These windmills were used in the past to pump water out of the
lowlands into the rivers that the land can be used for farming; this is why
most of Holland is 1-4 meter below sea level. In this village you can visit the windmills
and see how it works and going up to the roof and buying the oil that is
produced by the grind seeds.
